easyJet Cabin Bag Size 2026: Free and Large Bag Rules

The easyJet cabin bag size for the free bag is 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including any handles and wheels, with a maximum weight of 15 kg, and it needs to fit under the seat in front of you. A large cabin bag of up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm and 15 kg can go in the overhead locker if you have paid to add one. These hand luggage sizes are as stated by easyJet on its website, checked 19 October 2026.

Allowance Size (cm) Size (inches) Weight Who gets it
Small cabin bag, under the seat 45 x 36 x 20, handles and wheels included 17.5 x 14 x 8 15 kg All customers
Large cabin bag, overhead locker 56 x 45 x 25, handles and wheels included 22 x 17.5 x 10 15 kg Customers who paid to add one, easyJet Plus members who booked one, Inclusive Plus subject to availability
Baby changing bag, under the seat 45 x 36 x 20 17.5 x 14 x 8 No limit stated An infant on an adult’s lap

easyJet gives its sizes in centimetres only. The inches are our conversion (1 inch = 2.54 cm), rounded to the nearest half inch, so for a close fit measure in centimetres.

easyJet free cabin bag size: 45 x 36 x 20 cm

The free small cabin bag, easyJet’s under-seat bag, can measure up to 45 x 36 x 20 cm, including any handles and wheels, and needs to fit under the seat in front of you. easyJet lists a small trolley case, a handbag, a rucksack and a laptop bag as examples, “but please check dimensions”.

That is larger than Ryanair’s 40 x 30 x 20 cm free small bag or Jet2’s under-seat bag of the same size.

easyJet hand luggage weight limit: 15 kg

Both easyJet cabin bags have a maximum weight of 15 kg, and easyJet adds “we do ask that you’re able to lift and carry it yourself”.

easyJet large cabin bag size: 56 x 45 x 25 cm

The large cabin bag can measure up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm, including any handles and wheels, and goes in an overhead locker. easyJet gives a trolley case and a larger rucksack as examples. You can bring one if you paid to add it, booked one as an easyJet Plus member, or have an Inclusive Plus booking, subject to availability. easyJet’s cabin bag FAQ adds these rules:

  • A large cabin bag comes with speedy boarding.
  • You can book one per person per flight, also for children and infants with a booked seat, so two cabin bags per person at most.
  • Locker space is limited, so easyJet restricts the number of large cabin bags on each flight. Add yours when you book.
  • You can buy a large cabin bag one way.
  • If none is left, you can add a hold bag instead, including a small 15 kg option.
  • The price is shown when you book or in Manage Bookings. Buying online is cheaper than at the airport, where a bag fee applies.

Whether an Up Front or Extra Legroom seat includes a large cabin bag is not written out. easyJet shows this rule only as icons in its allowance table, so check your booking before you rely on one of these seats for a large cabin bag.

easyJet cabin bags for children and infants

Children over 2 and infants with a booked seat get the same cabin bag allowance as adults.

  • An infant on an adult’s lap can have an extra baby changing bag of up to 45 x 36 x 20 cm, which goes under the seat.
  • Each infant or child can also bring up to two child items free, such as a travel cot, pushchair, buggy, car seat, booster seat or baby back carrier, on top of the cabin bag allowance.

What else you can carry on easyJet

On top of your cabin bags, easyJet lets you carry an umbrella, an overcoat, crutches or a walking stick, and one standard bag of goods bought at the airport.

What happens at the gate

A bag over easyJet’s size limits goes in the hold and “charges will apply”, as does a large cabin bag that was not pre-booked or comes without “the correct seat selection”. easyJet gives no amount, so we do not quote one.

How to measure a backpack for easyJet

Measure your backpack packed, handles included, because easyJet’s limits include them.

  • Height: from the base to the top of the bag, top handle included.
  • Width: across the widest point, side pockets included.
  • Depth: from the back panel to the front of the front pocket, the one to watch for the 20 cm limit.

A luggage scale gives you the weight against the 15 kg limit, or weigh yourself on a bathroom scale with and without the bag. easyJet’s app also has a bag sizing tool that uses the phone’s camera, on iOS only.

Backpacks that fit the easyJet under-seat bag

These backpacks from our leather backpacks collection fit inside 45 x 36 x 20 cm on their stated dimensions, so they also fit the large cabin bag. A soft bag packed full bulges, so measure yours packed before you fly.

There are more in our men’s leather backpacks and women’s leather backpacks, and our cabin backpacks collection gathers the travel models.

easyJet cabin bag size compared with other airlines

easyJet’s small cabin bag is the largest under-seat bag of the six airlines below, on the figures each airline states on its own website, checked 19 October 2026.

Airline Small or under-seat bag (cm) Larger cabin bag (cm)
easyJet Small cabin bag 45 x 36 x 20, up to 15 kg Large cabin bag 56 x 45 x 25, up to 15 kg
Ryanair Small personal bag 40 x 30 x 20, no weight stated 10kg Cabin Bag 55 x 40 x 20, 10 kg
Jet2 Under-seat bag 40 x 30 x 20, no weight stated Hand luggage 56 x 45 x 25, up to 10 kg
Aer Lingus Personal item 40 x 30 x 20, no weight stated 10kg bag 55 x 40 x 24, 10 kg
Loganair Cabin bag 40 x 35 x 18, under 6 kg None, plus a small handbag (no size given)
British Airways Hand bag 40 x 30 x 15, no weight stated on its hand baggage page Cabin bag 56 x 45 x 25, no weight stated, every cabin including Economy Basic

Taking the smallest figure on each side of the six small bags gives a 40 x 30 x 15 cm box, set by British Airways. Leave British Airways out and it is 40 x 30 x 18 cm. Of the backpacks above, only our faux leather backpack with a buckle clasp fits both boxes on its stated dimensions, and a full soft bag bulges, so measure it packed.

The new EU cabin bag rule

An EU rule will set a personal item every passenger may bring on board, of at least 40 x 30 x 15 cm, with no weight minimum and no obligation to include a cabin bag in every fare. Regulation (EU) 2026/2202 was published on 2 October 2026 and applies 12 months later, so from about October 2027, exact date to be confirmed. We found no UK rule of this kind, and the European Commission’s questions and answers do not say how it treats UK flights.

easyJet cabin bag questions

How strict is easyJet on cabin bag size?

easyJet gives no tolerance above 45 x 36 x 20 cm or 56 x 45 x 25 cm, handles and wheels included, so treat both as firm limits. A bag over them goes in the hold, where “charges will apply”.

Can I use a rucksack as my free easyJet cabin bag?

Yes, easyJet lists a rucksack among its small cabin bags, if it measures no more than 45 x 36 x 20 cm and fits under the seat.

Can I bring a rucksack and a handbag on easyJet?

The free allowance is one small cabin bag, so a rucksack and a handbag together would be two. Pack the handbag inside the rucksack, or add a large cabin bag.

Does easyJet Plus include a large cabin bag?

Yes, easyJet’s cabin bag FAQ says easyJet Plus members can take one small and one large cabin bag on board for free, subject to space. Add the large bag to your booking, or it goes in the hold for free when no space is left.

Will a laptop backpack fit under the seat on easyJet?

Yes, if it measures no more than 45 x 36 x 20 cm packed. Three backpacks above, made for a 15.6 or 16 inch laptop, fit on their stated dimensions.
